وبدأت السلسلة في دور الـ16 من كأس العالم 2022 عندما سجل هدفًا أمام أستراليا، ثم واصل التسجيل بهدف أمام هولندا في ربع النهائي، وهدف أمام كرواتيا في نصف النهائي، قبل أن يختتم نسخة قطر بهدف في نهائي فرنسا.

واستمر تألق قائد الأرجنتين في مونديال 2026، حيث افتتح مشواره بثلاثية أمام الجزائر، ثم أحرز هدفين أمام النمسا، وهدفًا أمام الأردن في دور المجموعات، قبل أن يسجل هدفًا أمام الرأس الأخضر في دور الـ32، ثم هدفًا آخر أمام مصر في دور الـ16.
