يواجه اللاعب الأسترالي كريستيان فولباتو، مهاجم نادي ساسولو الإيطالي، أزمة خارج الملاعب بعد أن أظهر اختبار مبدئي أجرته الشرطة نتيجة إيجابية للكوكايين، عقب توقيفه بسبب القيادة بسرعة مفرطة في مدينة سيدني الأسترالية.

وأوقفت شرطة نيو ساوث ويلز اللاعب البالغ من العمر 22 عاماً في الساعات الأولى من صباح الجمعة، بعدما رُصد وهو يقود سيارته بسرعة بلغت 109 كيلومترات في الساعة في منطقة لا تتجاوز السرعة المسموح بها فيها 60 كيلومتراً في الساعة.

وخضع فولباتو لاختبار مبدئي للكشف عن المخدرات، أظهر، وفق ما أعلنته الشرطة والتقارير الإعلامية، نتيجة إيجابية للكوكايين، قبل أخذ عينة لعاب ثانية وإرسالها إلى المختبر لإجراء تحاليل إضافية.

وتأتي الواقعة بعد أن أوقفت الشرطة اللاعب للمرة الثانية خلال الليلة نفسها بسبب السرعة، إذ كان قد تلقى مخالفة في وقت سابق بعد قيادته بسرعة تجاوزت الحد المسموح به.

وبناءً على الإجراءات المتخذة، جرى تعليق رخصة القيادة الدولية الخاصة بفولباتو لمدة ستة أشهر، فيما لم توجه إليه حتى الآن تهمة جنائية، بانتظار نتائج الفحوصات الإضافية.

وأعلنت كرة القدم الأسترالية أنها على علم بالواقعة، مؤكدة تواصلها مع اللاعب وتقديم الدعم له خلال فترة التحقيق، فيما تعهد اتحاد اللاعبين المحترفين في أستراليا بدعمه أيضاً.

وتأتي الأزمة بعد أسابيع قليلة من تحول فولباتو إلى أحد أبرز الوجوه الصاعدة في كرة القدم الأسترالية، بعدما اختار تمثيل منتخب أستراليا بدلاً من إيطاليا، التي سبق أن لعب لمنتخباتها في الفئات السنية.

وكان فولباتو ضمن قائمة أستراليا في كأس العالم 2026، بعد أن استدعاه المدرب توني بوبوفيتش إلى تشكيلة المنتخب، عقب انتقاله الدولي إلى صفوف «الكانجارو». ويلعب اللاعب في صفوف ساسولو الإيطالي، بعد أن تدرج في أكاديمية روما.

Aussie player Christian Volpato, a forward for Italian club Sassuolo, is facing an off-field crisis after a preliminary test conducted by the police showed a positive result for cocaine, following his arrest for speeding in Sydney, Australia.

The New South Wales police stopped the 22-year-old player in the early hours of Friday morning after he was spotted driving at a speed of 109 kilometers per hour in an area where the speed limit is 60 kilometers per hour.

Volpato underwent a preliminary drug test, which, according to police and media reports, showed a positive result for cocaine, before a second saliva sample was taken and sent to the lab for further analysis.

This incident comes after the player was stopped by the police for the second time that same night for speeding, having received a ticket earlier for driving over the speed limit.

As a result of the actions taken, Volpato's international driver's license has been suspended for six months, and he has not yet been charged with a crime, pending the results of the additional tests.

Football Australia has announced that it is aware of the incident, confirming its communication with the player and offering support during the investigation, while the Professional Footballers' Association in Australia has also pledged its support.

This crisis comes just weeks after Volpato emerged as one of the rising stars in Australian football, having chosen to represent the Australian national team instead of Italy, for which he had previously played at youth levels.

Volpato was included in Australia's squad for the 2026 World Cup after being called up by coach Tony Popovic to the national team following his international switch to the "Socceroos." The player is currently with Sassuolo in Italy after progressing through the Roma academy.
